Pastor Campbell’s Testimony of Salvation
I have lived in Indianapolis all of my life. In late April of 1997, my family moved to Acton. I wasn’t the most obedient child, my mom really had a hard time dealing with my juvenile antics (anyone would). Well, round about July or August of 1998 I was with some friends riding a dirt bike when a couple of guys walked up and began to talk with us. I noticed that they were neatly dressed and seemed to be respectable people so I entertained their conversation. They were excited about some church activities (I couldn’t quite understand why) and they invited us to come and join them on the activities. I said “Well, I’ll go if Joe and Matt do.” Then after they left, I asked Joe “You goin’?” He said “Nope.” And I replied “Me neither.” Then I Jumped on the dirt bike and drove off. Well, I ended up loosing control and driving strait into a tree. When the church bus stopped at my house the next day, I told them what happened and had a good excuse to stay home. Then on September 9th 1998 after three or four invites I ended up going to one of their activities. “Wednesday Night Teens” was the title. We played frisbee golf. I threw the frisbee around the church property and had an angry spirit about me (I wasn’t very good at that). Then afterwords, Chris Kaiser preached a message about salvation. He told me that I was a sinner and that Jesus came to save sinners. He took me down the Roman’s road and I was convicted of my sin and realized my need for the Savior. After his preaching, I bowed my head and repented of my sin and asked Jesus to forgive me and save me.

Pastor Campbell’s Call to the Ministry
On the third Friday in November of 1998 I was riding in the church van coming home from a youth rally. As we were getting close to home, Pastor Terry Danford and Pastor Chris Kaiser were discussing their “life verse”. They shared the Bible verse that they believed was the theme verse for their life. As I listened, I wanted to have a life verse as well. When I got home I opened my Bible and began to search all over for important verses that might work as my life verse. I searched and searched and finally fell asleep on my Bible without finding what I was looking for. The next day, I gave up on my search and opened my Bible for my normal daily Bible reading. As I read along in Luke chapter 4, my heart began to burn within me and I was really excited about what Jesus said that he was called to! I took the passage to Pastor Danford later that day and read it to him (Luke 4:18-19) “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord” I then told him that this passage meant a lot to me, that it made me excited about the ministry and what Christ came to do. He asked me if I believed I was being called to preach and I told him that I didn’t know but if God wanted me to, I was willing. I tucked this away and the next day, November 22nd, 1998, after Pastor Danford finished preaching, gave an alter call. The Lord was drawing me but I wasn’t sure why. I stood there in my pew and waited until he said “…if anyone would like to surrender to preach, come on forward.” Then I knew why I felt drawn to the alter! I went forward and told the Lord that if He wants me to be a preacher, then I will be a preacher.
I preached my first sermon the next summer at camp and I began preaching the gospel to people at school and leading other students to Christ. Then, a couple years later, I began teaching the youth and the Lord opened doors to help out in the church in other ways, I began leading the music for the congregational music and ran a bus route then led visitation in the east and west central regions of our area around the church. I began attending Bible college while still in high school and then went full time after graduating. After a year and a half in Bible college, we were having some differences of opinion with the school and Pastor Kaiser asked me to just focus on the ministry and study under him at our church so I came home and focused on our local church ministries.
Not to long after that, I got married and my pastor gave me some time to just focus on my new bride. I got a little side tracked and joined the Indiana Army National Guard. While in basic combat training, the Lord burdened me greatly for the work that He had called me to. I remember calling my pastor and asking him to pray that I would be able to get out of the Army. He told me to just stick it out and keep my word. When I got home, I told him that I was ready to jump in with both feet and serve the Lord!
That summer, the youth pastor asked me to cover for the youth ministry and he ended up leaving. My pastor asked me to go ahead and take the youth director position and strengthen the youth ministry of the church. We spent the next 6 years doing just that and it is now one of the primary ministries of that church. I continued directing music and running the bus ministry. But I felt like the Lord had more.
There were many times that God drew me aside to seek His face and pray, sometimes all night long. He was burdening me greatly for His work but I wasn’t sure exactly what He wanted me to do. I prayed and prayed and told Him that I would do whatever He wanted me to do, just to let me know what it is. My pastor and other men of God kept mentioning something about church planting in the inner city. I was pretty sure that the Lord didn’t have that on my calendar anytime in the next 10 years so I just told them that I didn’t think the Lord wanted me to do that.
Well, He kept after me! One thing after another reminding me of that possibility. I even asked Him “If you wanted me to start a church in the inner city, where would it be?” Well, wouldn’t you know, not less than a week later on my way to work, I stopped at the light on Prospect at Shelby street and it was like someone walked up next to me and said “Why not here?” So I researched a little on Fountain Square and saved a folder on my computer for later, just in case God called me to inner city church planting.
Finally in November of 2010 we were having a missions conference and I prayed on that Thursday night and told the Lord, “If You want me to do this inner city church planting thing, I need You to tell me tonight in this message.” Evangelist Ted Alexander got up in the pulpit and asked everyone to turn to his text in Acts 1:8 and he proceeded to preach a message on the topic of reaching our Judea and how the inner cities are in such a bad shape because we have left them for our suburban life and churches. After the message, Pastor Kaiser asked if there were any testimonies. With tears streaming down my face, I stood up and said, “I believe the Lord wants us to do something downtown and I believe He wants me to be a part of it.” He assured me that he had known this for a long time and that we would get to it very soon.
The next spring was ordination time! I wrote my doctrinal statement and the men of the church studied it for a good while and prepared their statements and questions for “the grilling” (as Pastor Kaiser called it). We met as men of the church and they asked questions about my calling and my doctrine and gave their blessing on my send off. On March 13th, 2011 we had special services and McGregor Road Baptist Church, by the power of the Holy Spirit of God, counted me worthy of the work whereunto I had been called and they stood and laid hands on me and commissioned me for the work.
